Home Preparation

The preparation for Vishu begins days in advance and involves a thorough cleaning of the house, a tradition that signifies the removal of old, negative energies to make way for fresh, positive vibes. Houses are swept, washed, and decorated meticulously.

On the eve of Vishu, the focus shifts to the Pooja room. The brass lamps (Nilavilakku) are polished until they shine brilliantly. The uruli is cleaned to hold the Vishukkani. Women ensure that traditional clothes are washed and pressed, and the kitchen is stocked with all the necessary ingredients to prepare the elaborate Vishu Sadya the next day.
