Mythology
Mythology adds a layer of enchantment to the Vishu celebrations. The most popular legend associated with Vishu is the slaying of the demon Narakasura by Lord Krishna. It is said that Krishna's victory brought back the light of prosperity to the world, which is why people burst firecrackers and light lamps on Vishu.
Another fascinating myth involves Surya, the Sun God. According to folklore, the demon king Ravana never allowed the Sun God to rise in the East. It was only after Lord Rama defeated Ravana that the Sun was finally able to rise freely from the East on the day of Vishu, symbolizing the return of natural order and cosmic justice.
